5 Top Tips For Party Dress Shopping This Festive Season

The festive season is almost upon us and that means a whole host of holiday parties will soon be heading our way. It’s a chance to let loose and relax, as well spending some quality time with your nearest and dearest.

However, this also brings the added stress of party dress shopping. With so many bashes going on, the need for a new dress is real, but where do you even start?

Here, we’ve compiled five of our top tips for party dress shopping this festive season.

Start early

One of the best tips we can give you is to start early. Whilst many of us are loath to even think about the office Christmas party sooner than the week before it actually happens, leaving everything to the last minute will just add to your stress levels. We’ve all been manically storming around the high street the night before a party looking for an outfit and this gets even worse when there are hundreds of others doing the same thing.

And, the earlier you start, the more choice there’ll be available before every shop is ransacked.

Think about what you’ll be doing

Another important thing to consider when you’re buying a dress is what you’ll be doing in it. This might seem like a stupid suggestion, but many people think more about the look than the actual practicality of it. Obviously, you want to look your best, but a dress that cuts you in the middle and means you can’t sit down all night isn’t going to be the best choice.

We spoke to Missy Empire, a leading women’s clothing retailer, who said: “Comfort is also a factor that needs to be considered when looking for your perfect party dress. If you’re going to be drinking and eating all night, make sure your dress can accommodate these activities. Fortunately, there’s plenty of options that look great and allow you to actually enjoy your night!”

Be versatile

Party season is usually a very expensive one, as most of us will be attending more than one bash over the coming months. Buying a dress that can be used in different ways can help to save some pennies in the run-up to Christmas by allowing you to dress it up in different ways and use it for more than one party. However, make sure you get a dress of good quality so that it lasts the season!

Following on from this, think about how the dress can be accessorized. One of the worse things to do is to buy a dress and realise you have nothing to go with it, so end up having to buy new shoes, bags, and jewellery. Think about how it already fits into your wardrobe and that you can make the most of it.

Consider your body type

For those who lack a little confidence when it comes to rocking their bodies in some fabulous party dresses, you might want to consider how your dress will interact with your body type. For apple shaped ladies, choose a dress with an empire or drop waist to redefine your waistline and draw attention away from your middle.

For those with bigger hips, add width to your top half with horizontal stripes and bold colours, keeping your bottom half in darker colours.

But, at the end of the day, it’s important to remember that the best dress for you will be the one that makes you feel the most fabulous. You don’t have to play by the rules and do what everyone else does. You do you and slay on in whatever you choose!
